L. Kim West

L. Kim West passed away on July 21, 2010 from complications of a stroke. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at the West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway, followed by a Funeral Service at 4 p.m., at the church.

Kim was born Sept. 24, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Margaret (Mason) and Worth West. He attended Grandview College and Drake University. He was a member of the Naval Reserves and was called to serve in the Korean War, where he served on the USS Orion. He then returned to Des Moines to join his dad at Mitchell West Heating and A/C which he later purchased and where he continued to work throughout his life. He was a very active member of West Des Moines Christian Church.

Kim is survived by Jane (Cox) West, his wife of 49 years; his children: Leah (Mark) Scherer, Bill West, Elizabeth (Marc) Ward, Amy (Kirby) Davidson, and Rob (Deb) West; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He also had 2 children from a previous marriage: Randi (Gary) Stanton and Marty West.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his grandson, (his “buddy”) Ryan Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to West Des Moines Christian Church.
