Town of Broome: Lance L. Becker, Sr. 72, of Debar Hill Rd., passed away, peacefully in his home, Friday, March 4, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Lance was born June 25, 1938 in Amityville, son of the late Lucas G. and Alice (Staufer) Becker.

Lance graduated from Middleburgh Central High School and received his Associates Degree from SUNY Farmingdale.

He worked for Electric Boat in Quincy, MA, working on the Sea Wolf class submarine design and later as a self-employed general contractor, building many homes locally and in the surrounding area.

Lance was a past member of both the Middleburgh and Broome Volunteer Fire Departments. He also volunteered with the Middleburgh Little League.

Until his death, he was the Code Enforcement Officer for the Towns of Broome and Fulton and he was a lifelong member and supporter of the Schoharie County Democratic Committee.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and raising and showing English Springer Spaniels.

Besides his parents, Lance was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert and William Becker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Diane (Hayes) Becker; daughters; Sue Ellen (John) Healy of Quincy, MA, Lauren (Joseph) Reinhart of Schoharie, NY and Kris (Michael) Barkley of Scotia, NY; son, Lance L (Deborah) Becker II of Cobleskill, NY; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Davis, Zachary (Amanda) Reinhart, Jared (Megan) Reinhart, Ryan Healy, Peter Muller, Lucas Muller and Alyssa Becker; two great grandchildren, Grace Mae and Madison Elaine Reinhart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Main St., Middleburgh, NY. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Cremation will take place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady, NY.
