Mr. Lanny Drue Schooler, age 74, of Sunbright, TN, passed away on February 1, 2011, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. Lanny was born February 6, 1936 in Des Moines, IA. He grew up on a dairy farm in Carlisle, IA.
Following graduation from Hartford High School in 1954, he moved to San Luis Obispo, CA, later moving to Morgan Hill, CA. He graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his career with Lockheed Aerospace in CA. He joined Martin -Marietta Aerospace in Denver, continuing in Orlando and Oak Ridge where he retired from Lockheed- Martin.
Lanny was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of New Faith Lodge No. 768, F & AM, in Sunbright. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Kerbela Shriners, York Rite and was extremely proud of being a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. He also belonged to The Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Marshal at Sunbright No. 303 and as Worthy Patron at Oliver Springs No. 211, as well as Grand Instructor for District 35.
Waiting to welcome him to Heaven are his parents: Dean and Ellen Gardner Schooler; brothers: Nason, Larkin, and Larry; and granddaughter, Renee' Michelle Nelson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gigi; son, Steve and wife, Lori of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters: Lannette Sampier and husband, Grant of Littleton, CO; Stacey Florentz and husband, Bobby of LaHabra, CA; and Shellie Curl and husband, Glenn of Sunbright. Grandchildren: Lindsey Sampier-Greener, and husband Jay of Ft. Collins, CO; Stephanie Sampier of Littleton, CO; Ashton Nelson of Dunkirk, MD; and Bryce Cummings of LaHabra, CA; one great-grandson, Cade Grant Sampier-Greener; sister-in-law, Nancy Schooler of Palmyra, IA; and a host of friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 4, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Masonic and funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Bro. Steve Gadd. A graveside service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Sunbright Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Widows and Orphans, 100 7th Ave. North Ste, 1, Nashville, TN 37203, in memory of Lanny Schooler or Morgan County Youth Leadership, c/o Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 539, Wartburg, TN 37887.
