Larry Glenn Shaw, married to Joyce Morris Shaw for 53 years departed this life into the presence of his Savior on December 21st surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. As a man of faith, he leaves an example and legacy of prayer and worship for all who knew him.
Born in Honea Path, SC on January 21, 1933, he was the son of the late William Erby Shaw and Mittie Saxon Shaw. Larry is survived by his adoring wife and their children; L. Glenn Shaw, Jr. and wife Laurel, David L. Shaw and wife, Tammy, LaDonna S. Umberger and husband, Chris; grandchildren Mariah and Christian Shaw, Stephen, Matthew, Andrew, Lauren and Hannah Shaw, Olivia, Emma and Lilly Umberger, Alexandria (Lexie) Alverson; son-in-law, Jason D. Alverson and wife Kathryn. Larry is also survived by his sister, Martha Shaw Franks and husband Joe and brother, Jack E. Shaw and wife Jane.
He was predeceased by daughter, Rebecca S. Alverson and baby granddaughter Emily Grace Alverson and sister, Ruby Shaw Shepherd.
Larry had a lifelong love for Emmanuel College, his alma mater, where he received the foundation for a life of service to Jesus Christ and where he served a year as Dean of Men. He was an accomplished, inspirational vocalist and dedicated trombone player. He possessed a giving heart expressed through his church and Christian ministries he loved. He was the founding pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church, Greenville, SC.
Larry was a second generation home builder, real estate investor and landlord. He served his country in the US Army.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and a memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at The Mackey Mortuary.
