Larry Roy Johnston, 70 of Moline, IL, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1330 13th Street, Moline, IL. There will be a visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. at 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal at a later date. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
Larry was born on January 17, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, IA to William R. and Edna E. (Demmel) Johnston. He married Barbara Broederdorf on June 17, 1967 in Elgin, IL. Larry was a self-employed financial consultant and retired in 2007. He was a member of several organizations including Trinity Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees, Illinois Quad Cities Rotary as a past president and longtime scholarship chairman, Churches United, WVIK, and Toast Masters. He had many interests such as music, painting, art, magic, reading, writing, and coaching children's sporting events. Larry had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very selfless man who you could say never knew a stranger. He loved his family very much.
