Laura Pauline Waller, born June 22, 1920, passed away in her sleep on December 15, 2011. Polly was a beautiful soul who was much beloved by family and friends for her generosity and compassion for all living creatures. Although gentle and unassuming, she had a core of strength that supported others in need. Polly was fearless and adventurous, a free spirit who loved life and brightened the day with her ready smile and quick sense of humor. She saw only the best in people and had a kind word for everyone and delighted in doing favors. Polly was born in the Philippines when her father was stationed there as a sanitation officer with the United States Army. She grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she attended West Junior School and Girl's High School and then Millersville College for two years. After marrying Earl Allen Waller, Polly's family became the focus of her life, but she also held various school and church positions and she enjoyed volunteer work with organizations such as the American Lung Association. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Earl; her father, Dr. Samuel Hess Heller; her mother, Pauline Gertrude Gilbert Heller; her stepmother, Miriam Kase Heller, who raised her; her sister, Marion H. Deckard; her stepbrother, Harry Williams; sisters-in-law, Carol Etter, Edith Waller, Edna Williams, Hazel Carlson; and brothers-in-law, Richard Deckard, John Waller, Jim Waller, Ed Waller and Orville Carlson. Her passing is deeply mourned by friends and family including her daughters, Deborah Ann Waller and Polly Diane Dygve, Diane's husband Rick Dygve and their daughters, Emily Noelle Dygve and Megan Pauline Curry, Megan's husband Bill Curry and their children, Billy, Jeremiah, Savannah and Laurel Pauline, brother-in-law, Ronnie Etter and his family and sister-in-law, Barbara Waller and her family; and many dear nieces and nephews. Polly's ashes will be interred in the Columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery next to those of her husband. The date of the memorial service has not yet been decided.
