Williams, LaVerne, age 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2011, in her home at Grasslands Estates, Wichita, KS. Funeral services will be held at Resthaven Chapel on Tues. Jan. 11, at 10:00 a.m. The interment service will also be held in the chapel immediately following the funeral service. Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Northwest Christian Church. LaVerne was born on Nov. 3, 1913, in Killeen, TX to C.F. and Melissa Carlisle. She married Clark Williams on Dec. 19, 1933, in Clovis, NM. At the outbreak of WWII, the couple moved to Kirkland, WA., where Clark went to work in the shipyards and learned to weld. Clark used his newly acquired skills welding pipeline transmission lines in the oil fields of TX. and OK. He quickly moved up the ladder to be superintendent of the R.H. Fulton Pipeline Construction Company. That job meant lots of moving from job-site to job-site for 12 years. Finally in 1951, the couple settled in Dodge City, KS. where they lived happily for 50 years. LaVerne was a member of the First Christian Church, P.E.O. chapter DZ, Atheneum Study Club, Friends of the Library, Women of the Moose, Western Plains Medical Complex Auxiliary, Carnegie Center for the Arts, and numerous bridge clubs. Three years after Clark's death in 1997, LaVerne moved to Wichita and lived independently for ten more years. She is survived by her brother, J.E Carlisle of Harker Heights, TX; daughters Dana Kline and husband Phil of Wichita, and Karen Misak of Goddard; grandchildren Wendy McCune and husband Shawn of Overland Park; Gina Mertes and husband Ron of Wichita; Aaron Wynn and wife Shara of Goddard, and Melissa Misak and husband Leaf Lammens of Tequesta, FL; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kaylie McCune, Blake and Kamryn Mertes, and Croix Lammems.
