MISSOULA-Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (or G.G., as she was affectionately known) passed away peacefully Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2011 at the age of 97 of complications from a fall. She was born February 4, 1914 in Deer Lodge to Lucas and Anna Rotzinger Dachs. She graduated from Powell County H.S. and then worked various jobs as a clerk or secretary for the government including the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, OR and the Regional Office of War Production Board in Seattle, WA. LaVona married Russell George Schreiber July 20, 1939 in Vancouver, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, three brothers and infant granddaughter Amy Bowman. In 1954 she began making draperies at home for various Missoula stores, including JC Penney's and Wagner Furniture. After her retirement in 1979 she enjoyed traveling, especially three trips to Alaska, crocheting, reading, raking, weeding, playing games, and working jigsaw puzzles. She very much enjoyed the presence of her great grandchildren. She cherished the wonderful 50 plus years spent at her West Fork summer home with family and friends. We will miss you, Mom. She is survived by her children: Penny Bowman of Missoula, and twins Jerry Schreiber (Dawn) of Missoula and Jean Portolese (Joe), Edmonds, WA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brandi Habets (Lane), Michael Bowman (Roselynn), Johanna Jirsa (Ed), Tim Schreiber (Beth), Tammy Schreiber, Triston Schreiber (Nicole), Russell Schreiber (Traci), Chad Melton (Yuri), Brandon Melton, and 14 Great Grandchildren. There will be a private family graveside burial. A celebration of her life will be held at the family's West Fork cabin in the summer of 2012. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Missoula, 800 Kensington, Suite 204, Missoula, MT 59801 (www.hospiceofmissoula.com) or the local food bank. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
