Lawrence D. Burgund, 84, of Vero Beach, died December 26, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. He was born New York City, NY, and was raised in Summit, NJ, spending summers in college as a life guard in Spring Lake. He attended Michigan State University on a football scholarship and later transferred to Seton Halll University where he was named and inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific during the Korean War.
He later became a special agent investigator in the FBI in New York City, serving under J. Edgar Hoover.
He lived in Spring Lake, NJ for many years and moved to Florida in 1972. Over his lifetime, he owned many thoroughbred horses and was involved in the racing industry in Florida, New York and California. He traveled the world to visit race tracks in Ireland, Europe, South Africa and Australia.
He worked as a Real Estate Broker at John's Island, Vero Beach for 30 Years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. He
He is survived by his 5 daughters, Marie, Pat, Laura and Ann all of Martin County and Kathie of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudie.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City Chapel.
