Dow Phillips

Beckley – Lawrence Dow Phillips of Beckley died August 28, 2011. He was born August 2, 1933 to the late Lawrence D. Phillips and Beryl Kitzmiller Phillips of Philippi.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Girod Phillips, daughter Julie Lexington, KY son Dow Sumter, SC, sister Anna Belle Mitchell Blacksburg, VA and several nieces and nephews.
He attended WVU for two years before serving four years in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Fairmont State upon his discharge from the Navy. He worked for Consolidation Coal Co for eleven years before becoming a federal mine inspector for MSHA Mine Safety Health Administration for twenty-three years, serving nineteen years as district manager in Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia.
He enjoyed using the computer, square dancing, puttering around the yard and traveling all over the United States.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Dr. Chuck Pullins officiating.
Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 1 - 2 PM at the funeral home.

A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "The Place" at United Methodist Temple.
