Lawrence Fred Leffel, 89 of New Castle, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013. Fred was a member of Craig Healing Springs Christian Church. He was an avid bear hunter, golfer, and had a love for all animals. Fred served in the United States Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor.
He was preceded in death by his mother Della Leffel Davis and brother Jack L. Sims. He is survived by loving wife of over 50 years, Geneva Ferrell Leffel; daughter and son-in-law Shirley Leffel Kingery and husband Billy; niece (raised as daughter) Lynne Ferrell May and husband Lucky; grandchildren Jacob (Melissa), Gregory (Brooke), and Christopher May; great-grandchildren Landon, Laikan, and Waylon May.
Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Craig Healing Springs Christian Church Cemetery with Pastor Bill Frazier officiating. Military Rites will be performed by VFW Post #4491. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Craig Valley VFW Post #4491 307 Virginia Mineral Springs Road New Castle, VA 24127 www.paitselfh.com
