Lawrence M. Murphy, 81, of the 2600 block of Einstein Dr., Virginia Beach, VA, passed away August 6, 2011, in his home. A native of Brooklyn, NY, he retired from the United States Navy as a Master Chief after 27 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Sydney Murphy; a son, Lawrence M. Murphy, III of Alexandria, VA; two daughters, Coleen Murphy Smith and husband Timothy of Virginia Beach, VA and Maggie Murphy Young and husband Ron of Huntsville, AL; and six grandchildren, Lawrence M. Murphy, IV and wife Michelle of Woodbridge, VA, Danielle Murphy, Trey Smith, Courtney Smith, Morgan Young and Jack Young. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
