Lawrence W. Morris

Lawrence W. Morris passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Larry was born in 1928 in College Station, Texas, to Lawrence and Ada Morris, both deceased. He received Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Utah, where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate receiving a Regular Army commission. His military career spanned over forty years in the Active and Reserve Components beginning with his enlistment in the U S Marine Corps during WW II. He commanded the 96th US ARCOM at Fort Douglas for five years, retiring as a Major General. He was inducted into the Artillery Hall of Fame, Fort Sill, OK. Larry worked for the Utah State Department of Corrections, serving as Deputy Director and Warden of the State Prison.
His marriage to Sylvia Lucille Johnson was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife and three children and 8 grandchildren: Larry (Pam), Midway, UT, Michael (Paula), Bountiful, UT, and Michelle (Todd) Draper, UT. Their grandchildren Ashley, Whitney, Ashton, Talmage, Gabriel, Addison, Kelsie and Allie are the loves of their lives.
At Larry’s request, there will be a military graveside service at Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South, SLC at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 20. Friends may visit with family members one hour earlier at Memorial Estates.
Dad, thank you for your life of kindness and love. We will miss you.
