LCDR Dennis C. FitzGerald, USN, retired, 63, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Born to the late Winthrop C. FitzGerald and Mary Helen FitzGerald, Dennis proudly served 30 years in the United States Navy, where he served tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He also worked for Brinks for the past 15 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Dora; three children, Elizabeth Tenney, Michelle Durant (Matthew), and Jason FitzGerald; six grandchildren, Rebekah, Stephanie, and Aaron Tenney, Ryan and Peyton Durant, and Jesiah Fitzgerald; his mother, Mary Helen FitzGerald (Rick DiGiorgio); three sisters, Diane Herron, Debra Peppard (Harry), Sandra Eddings (David); and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Church of the Holy Angels with Rev. Fr. Michael Boehling officiating, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Oasis Social Ministry, 120 High St., Portsmouth, VA 23704.
