Lela (Dixie) Jones Evans passed away on January 13, 2012 in Stockton, Calif. She was born April 10, 1920 in Malad City, Idaho. She was the daughter of David S. and Lottie L. Jones.
Dixie married Wesley H. Evans in Logan, Utah on July 6, 1943. They were married for more than 61 years until Wesley's death in 2005.
Mom is survived by her three children Dixie Evans of Stockton, Diane Gilliland ( Bob) of Linden and Craig Evans of Volcano.She was preceded in death by her daughter Debra Evans.
Grandma will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Julie, Jeffrey, Jason and Ryan, six great grandchildren (with three on the way),three step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. Dixie is survived by brothers David, Darwin, Robert, Ken and sister Betty.She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters La Rue, Ruth and brother Venal.
Dixie was a member of Omega Nu, Junior Aid, past PTA president at Martin Van Buren School, and The Pacific Athletic Foundation. She loved her sports and enjoyed going to Pacific basketball games for over 45 years. Dixie and Wes loved their travels to all parts of the world, especially China.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Meadowwood Skilled Nursing Facility for the wonderful care she received while there. Donations may me made to Hospice of San Joaquin or The St Joseph's Breast Cancer Program.
Visitation will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 11am to 5pm. Funeral Services will be at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N California St., Stockton on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11am. Burial will follow at Park View Cemetery, Manteca, Calif.
