Dewitt, Leon A., 74, suddenly passed away on December 3, 2011 in Wichita, KS. He was born November 5, 1937 in Atoka, OK to Archie and Elsie (Jones) Dewitt. After working in the oil fields in west Texas, Leon served in the Army in El Paso, TX and Germany. Leon and Connie (Fugate) married in Oklahoma City, OK March 20, 1964. He was a long-time resident of Wichita and retired as a sales representative for Mid-States Supply Company. Leon was an honorary graduate of Rochester High School in Rochester, MN. He was also inducted into the Lifetime VIP Hall of Fame at 81 Speedway in 2008. Leon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, auto racing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Jones; sister, Edith Shelton; nephews, Mark Jeffreys and Johnnie Ford; and niece, Cynthia Medcalf. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Connie; children, Leann (Brian) Kitchen of Andover, KS, Karen (John) McCalla of Andover, KS, and Dan (Janella) Dewitt of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Matthew Kitchen, Katherine Dewitt, Michael Kitchen, and Jackson Dewitt; step-grandchildren, Emily McCalla and Jared McCalla; siblings, Rosetta Medcalf and Curtis Willeby; niece, Paula Saint, and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation: 4 - 8 pm, Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Funeral: 2 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2011, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. Guests are invited to join the family after the service at Fox & Hound, 1421 Waterfront Pky. You are also invited to attend a tribute for Leon at 81 Speedway at the first NCRA Modified race on April 7, 2012 (date subject to change). Following the race, family and friends will gather for an additional celebration of Leon's life.
