Leonard Kimball Nicholson passed away from a massive heart attack Thursday, January 19, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Mackenroth Nicholson; daughter Kimball Elizabeth, and son Thaddeus Kimball "T.K." Nicholson; mother-in-law Irene Ernst Mackenroth; brothers-in-law D. Irwin Mackenroth, Jr. and Kevin Foerster Mackenroth; sister-in-law Kelley Mackenroth; nieces Amy Elizabeth and Mary Margaret Mackenroth; parents Jerry Kimball and Harriet Smither Nicholson, and brother George Smither Nicholson. Leonard was a native of New Orleans, graduated from Metairie Park Country Day School and Yale University. He received a M.E. from Tulane University and a Doctorate of Business Administration from the Grenoble Ecole de Management in France. At Yale, he was a member of the Yale Shooting Team and qualified for the final trials of the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team. He was certified as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute. He was the director of Information Technology for the New Orleans District Attorney's Office. Leonard was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars; the Royal Society of St. George; Sons of Confederate Veterans; the Yale Alumni Association; Rotary Club of Metairie Sunrise; Jefferson Chamber of Commerce; French-American Chamber of Commerce –Gulf Coast Chapter; World Trade Center; the Plimsoll Club, the Sunrise Community Club, and a lifetime member of the NRA, IPSIC and the South Louisiana Gun Club. He enjoyed being a member of the Southern Yacht Club; Bienville Club; Fence Club and Mory's, and several carnival organizations. Leonard was a direct descendant of Eliza Poitevent Holbrook Nicholson, founder of the The Daily Picayune.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave. on Tuesday, January 24 at 12:00 NOON. Visitation from 10:00 until service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Episcopal Church, Southern Yacht Club – Junior Sailing Program, or Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra preferred.
