Mr. Leonard O. Fort, Sr., began his earthly journey on March 17, 1953 in Sheffield, Alabama. Mr. Fort was the eldest son of William Henry "Jake" and Grace Mae Bates of Sheffield, Alabama. He graduated from Leighton Training School in Leighton, Alabama. He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri; where he spent years working for Pepsi Company till his health failed. He loved to travel and cook. Nicknamed "Leon" was remembered well by all who knew him. But due to sudden illness he ended his journey on this earth, on January 2, 2012 at Christian Northeast in North St. Louis, County. He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Bates, sister, Lorraine Carter and brother, Desmond B. Bates of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He is survived by his mother, Grace Mae Bates of Sheffield, Alabama; two sons, Leevon Decatur of Sheffield, Alabama; and Leonard O. Fort, Jr. of Rockfort, Illinois, his Dear mate of many years, Dolly Fredrick of North Missouri County; one brother, Sammie Bates (Rosemary) of Tuscumbia, Alabama; four loving sisters, Darlene Walters (Roger) of St. Louis, Missouri; Belinda Byrd (Woodrow) of Bowling Green Kentucky, Valeria Jones and Ramona Dobson both of Florence, Alabama; A very special uncle, Charlie McDuffie Jr. of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; one grandchild and many nieces and nephews, many good friends, Charles and Leonard of St. Louis, Missouri just to name a few. Family was very important to Leonard but also laughter and good memories. We will never forget your cheerful and generous ways.
