Lera Mavis Douglass, 84, of Hot Springs died October 31, 2011 at her home. She was born in Hot Springs on September 29, 1927. She was the first of two children born to Othir David and Martha Ellen(Hammond) Griffin. She graduated from Hot Springs High School.
Lera was preceded in death by her first husband, George James Contos, who died on June 28, 1992. They were married for 44 years and lived for many years in Oakland and Hayward, CA, until George retired and they moved back to Hot Springs. Lera was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Hot Springs.
Lera is survived by her husband, George Douglass Jr., whom she married in 2000 at West Minister Presbyterian Church which they both attended. She is also survived by her son Greg Contos, his wife Karen, her grandchildren, Erica and Cristina (Spokane, WA), her sister, Beverly (Griffin) Frazier and husband Leonard, of Hot Springs. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.
One of Lera's passions was gardening and collecting rocks. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States and visited Tahiti, Hawaii, Canada and several countries in Europe.
Her memorial service will be held Thursday November 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of the West Minister Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs; AR. Reverend Lacy S. Sellars, Jr. will officiate.
