Leroy Mathes was born in Iowa in 1917. He married his high school sweetheart Christina in 1936. They started their family with their two eldest daughters Pat and Connie before moving to Nebraska before the war and completed their family with their youngest son Ron. In 1954 Leroy moved his family to Oregon to work on the Union Pacific railroad which he retired from after 30 years. Leroy and Christina were happily married for 66 years before her passing in 2002. After Leroy retired the happy couple shared 20 years in retirement spending time traveling and spending time with their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Leroy was reunited with Christina on September 20, 2011. Leroy will be greatly missed by all who were luckily enough to have shared in his life.
