Mr. Leroy Jackson Jr., was born September 27, 1944 in Ludlow, Mississippi to the union of the late Leroy Sr. and Mattie Kincaid Jackson. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Brentwood, Missouri. Leroy graduated from Hadley Technical High School in St. Louis, in 1961. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. Leroy was elevated to the Rank of E-4 during his four years of military service in which he earned an Honorable Discharge. October 8, 1967 he joined the St. Louis City Fire Department. He served at Engine Common 33 located in Baden. Leroy was promoted to Fire Captain May 18, 1980. He was a member of the Professional International Association For Black Fire Fighters. Leroy was one of the founders of FIRE (Fire Fighters Institute for Racial Equality). He retired from the Fire Department February 18, 1995. God dispatched His Angels to bring Leroy home on January 14, 2012. Leroy leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Joseph (Marie) Lee of Aberdeen, Mississippi and John R. (Helen) Lee of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Lorene Mays, Verneice Roberson and Mattie Young all of St. Louis, Missouri; two stepsons; Rodney (Brenda) Coates and Keith (Patricia) Coates of St. Louis, Missouri; one step-grandson, Rodney Coates; uncle, Arthur (Dorothy) Jackson; aunt, Helen Dupree all of St. Louis, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
