Lessie Horton born August 30, 1939, in Shelby County, Alabama to Wesley and Viola Fondren and a resident of Mobile for most of her life, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 after a lengthy illness and battle with dementia.
Lessie attended Baker High School, graduating in 1957. She retired with over 36 years of federal service beginning at Brookley AFB and ending with the US Army Corps of Engineers. She was an avid University of Alabama fan -- much to the dismay of her husband -an avid University of Tennessee fan. While she was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, she will be most remembered as being a gracious, generous lady with a quick mind, beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Allen; her children, Pamela Dykes (Brian), Karen Hunt and Greg Hunt; her stepchildren, Jennifer Horton (Ron Hood) and John Horton (Karen Davis); her sister, Shirley Harris; her brother, Ralph Fondren; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and many more loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011, from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 15, beginning 10:00 am in the Chapel at Pine Crest Funeral Home.
