Mr. Lewis J. Smith, age 87 of Tallassee, Alabama passed away December 31, 2011. He was born in Westville, Florida to the late Lewis Franklin and Clora Elizabeth Hudson Smith. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Smith and by eleven siblings. Lewis, known as Smitty, served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired after 30 years from Westinghouse and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Tallassee, AL. He enjoyed fishing, farming and caring for animals. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Malzie Wells Smith; children, Mickey (Donna) Smith of Morrow, GA, Glynn (Beverly) Smith of McDonough, GA, Clora (Dave) Long of Cherokee, NC, Greg (Brenda) Smith of Tallassee, AL; 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 2, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Patterson will officiate. Friends may visit the family Monday from 11:00 until the hour of service. Interment will follow Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 12:00 Noon CST in the Campground Cemetery in Westville, Florida.
