COLUMBIA Funeral service for Lillian Catherine Morganelli, 91, will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with entombment in Crescent Hill Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the funeral home.
Lil died Sunday, December 18, 2011. Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Arthur D. and Catherine Flannagan Beck. In the 1950's, she and her family moved to Columbia. She was employed by Asmer's Liquor store in Five Points for many years.
A devoted mother, grandmother and friend to many people, she attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She cooked many Italian meals for Frank McGuire's basketball players in the late 60's and early 70's. She was a friend to many people and was loved by all. She didn't need to open a restaurant but many people who ate with her thought she should. Her house was a place for many friends and family and the enjoyment of an excellent meal, some good stories, a glass of good wine, good scotch, and good music. In the early years she worked in her family business, Morganelli's Party Store on Forest Drive, always pairing her cooking knowledge with her beverage knowledge. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, Al Jr. and Kathy of Deland, Fla, Dennis and Suzette Morganelli of Gilbert, John and Brenda Morganelli of Columbia; grandchildren, Denise and Jerry Stewart, Dina and Dave Faultley, Dawn and Brian Anderson, AJ Morganelli of Deland, Fla., Sherry Morganelli, Gina and Jason Haig, O'Hara and Ashby Howard;
great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Stewart, DPJ and Alana Faultley,
Bradley and Isabella Anderson, Evan and Kayley Haig, Alex Willard of Asheville, N.C., Maren and John Howard. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Joseph Morganelli Sr.
The family wishes to thank Julia Houston, her daily care taker, Linda Sharpe, Barbara Kennedy Davis and Hospice for their assistance during her long illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sisters of Charity Organization at Providence Hospital, 2435 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29204 in her name.
