Lloyd Reeve Martin, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a long illness in Salt Lake City on March 28, 2011. He was born September 3, 1927 to Owen Hawkins and Vivian Reeve Martin in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Dorothy Gibson in Memphis, Tennessee on August 19, 1947 and was sealed to her in the Salt Lake Temple in September 1956.

Lloyd graduated from East High School in 1944, after which he attended the Salt Lake Technical College. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 during WWII. He spent one year in the Navy. He spent part of this time in Tennessee where he met his wife. He had a dance band while attending East High School and for many years after that. He played the clarinet (and saxophone) in the Letter Carrier’s Band from 1950 to present. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 35 years as a letter carrier and supervisor.

He was a member of the Utah Oratorio Society Choir along with his wife for twenty-five years. They had many trips with the choir including performing concerts with the Israeli Symphony in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and many holy places in Israel.

He was very active in the Sons of Utah Pioneers and was a past president of the East Millcreek Chapter. He held many positions in the LDS Church. He was ward clerk and a member of the Bishopric in the Rose Park Tenth Ward and Holladay Third Ward and a stake clerk in both the Rose Park and Holladay Stakes. He and his wife were ordinance workers together in the Salt Lake Temple for four years and he continued there for ten years after as an ordinance worker.

They enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with their children when they were young. They had many trips to Memphis, Tennessee to stay close to her family. He and his wife traveled to every state in the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled to Europe, the British Isles, Israel, and Egypt, most of the Caribbean Islands, Central America and the Canadian Provinces. His favorite sport later in life was golfing with his wife in St. George, Memphis and all over the Salt Lake valley.

Survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters: Donna M. Thomas (Larry) Erda, Utah; Deanna M. Plumhof (Jim) Salt Lake City, Utah; Dennese M. Fendt (John), Sandy, Utah; and son, Kenneth G. Martin (Christine), West Valley City, Utah. Sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and sister. Our heartfelt thanks to the many wonderful people at the Highland Care Center who took such good care of him in his many weeks there.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 1, 2011 at 12 noon at the Holladay Stake Center, 4568 S Holladay Blvd. A viewing will be held Thursday, March 31st at the Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Drive from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior on Friday at the church.
