Lois A. Waggoner
Des Moines

Lois Waggoner, 93, died of COPD and lymphoma on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was surrounded with love, by family and friends.

Lois was born January 16, 1917 and grew up in Audubon County and later moved to Des Moines to pursue a career in Cosmetology. Lois owned and operated beauty shops on 6th Avenue and Forest Avenue for several years. She met and married, William M. Waggoner, August 5, 1952.
Lois worked for the Dept. of Agriculture, Crop Reporting Service, as a Comptroller. Her hobbies included gardening, playing bingo, going to Prairie Meadows and her family.

Lois is survived by her son, Bill (Jan) Waggoner of Johnston; granddaughters, Heather (Brian) Hutzel of Grimes, Kayla (Steve) Owenson, and Alison Waggoner of Johnston; great grandchildren, Collin Shellenberger, Hale and Ainsli Hutzel, Raegan and Ava Owenson, Calvin Waggoner, and several loving relatives and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband William M. Waggoner, parents, August & Margaret Dutler, brothers, Earl, Roy, Ilo & Wayne Dutler and sister Lou Koppold.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Merle Hay Mausoleum. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice (5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA 50131).
