Loreta "Luring" de Leon of Oxnard, passed away on July 11, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Loreta was born on November 15, 1935, in Pampanga, Philippines. She married Celestino de Leon on March 5, 1959, in the Philippines, and was a longtime Oxnard resident. Loreta's life touched many people. Her career included working at various places such as Falcon-Spectra, ABEX Aerospace, and Santa Clara High School and St. Bonaventure High School cafeterias. Loreta was a longtime member of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Cursillo, Ladies Auxillary (Knights of Columbus), St. Augustinian Guild, church choir, Filipino Community of Ventura Co. Inc., and other Filipino organizations. Her biggest passions were cooking and baking, which many people enjoyed. The delicious foods and desserts she created had added joy to many special occasions. Loreta was a devoted wife and mother.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Celestino De Leon; their children Winfred (Katie), Myra (Glenn Tabor), and Alma (Glenn Okui); sisters Raymunda, Rose, Lourdes; brother Ben; along with many beloved family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 463 W. Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard, with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, July 22, also at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H Street in Oxnard.
