Loretta Toalson, 69, passed away September 19th, 2008 at St. Luke\'s Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008, at Blue Valley Christian Church, 123rd and Lamar, Overland Park, Kansas. Loretta was born in Topeka but raised in Independence, Missouri, where she attended William Chrisman High School. She graduated from The University of Kansas with a degree in music education which played a significant role during her later years when she brought her musical talent to both Prairie Village Presbyterian Church and Blue Valley Christian Church. As a member of Blue Valley Christian Church, she shared her musical talent through the bell choir and church choir, often reflecting on how much joy music brought her. Her Theta friends from KU were a source of great friendship and mutual admiration as well.
She raised her 3 children in Prairie Village, KS, then moved to Overland Park where she has resided the past twenty years. She loved her family, music and the Rocky Mountains where she recently vacationed with her daughter, Nancy and her friend Renae only weeks ago.
Loretta was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret H. Johnson. Survivors include her father, M. Orville Johnson; children Susan Stagg (Bud); Steve Toalson (Marci); Nancy Toalson; her sister Sherry Unruh (Rod); her grandchildren Ashleigh, Colin, Guin, Shannon, Ryan and Christopher; her nephews Ricky Unruh and Kenny Unruh (Katie); her dear friend, Renae Weaver and her loving pet Zoie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Blue Valley Christian Church or The YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center, Estes Park, Colorado.
