COLUMBIA - Graveside service for Louise Thigpen Newman, 80, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011, in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Newman, wife of the late Charles B. "Charlie" Newman, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Born in Wilmington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Otto Edward and Georgia Colean Thigpen. A graduate of Columbia High School, she retired after working with her husband in their home building business. She was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Charles T. Newman and Melita R. Newman of Columbia; grandchildren, Frances Gail Newman, Charles T. Newman Jr., Lindsay P. Rish (Blake), J. Nicholas Perry (Candice); great-grandchildren, Bryce N. Perry, Logan T. Perry, Gavin D. Perry, Mason M. Perry, Hunter L. Newman, and Perry M. Rish. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Gail Newman Sorrenti and brothers, Willard Thigpen, Albert Thigpen and Edward Thigpen. Louise Newman was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
