Lowrey B. Baskin January 3, 1919 - November 25, 2011 Lowrey B. Baskin of Waco passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at her residence. Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Mesa officiating. Burial will be 9:00 a.m., Monday, November 28, at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Lowrey Waldene Burleson was born on January 3, 1919, at Gatesville, Texas, the elder of two daughters of the late Nona Hackney and Rufus Burleson. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1934. She attended Southwestern University at Georgetown, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Journalism in 1941. She taught Journalism and English at Orange High School from 1941-1944. She met LTJG Roy H. Baskin, Jr, MC, USN, there in 1943, and they were married on Oct.14, 1943, at Bethel Methodist Church in Charleston, SC. They lived in Oakland, California and Rochester, Minnesota before moving to Waco in 1952. Her civic activities included serving as secretary of the Waco YWCA, several posts with the United Way, President of the McLennan County Medical Auxiliary, President of the Women's Symphony Council, Waco Art Center, President of the Fort House Board, member of the Earle-Harrison House Board, Cub Scout Pack 208, PTA, General Chairman of the Cotton Palace, Baylor Friends of Fine Arts Board, Strecker/Mayborn Museum Board and Baylor Heart of the Order. She taught Sunday school at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Roy H. Baskin, Jr. and sister, Virginia Burleson. Survivors include her sons, R. Howard Baskin III and wife, Mary, of Waco, Leland B. Baskin and wife, Laura of Calgary, AB, and J. Spencer Baskin and wife, Qian of Pasadena, CA; grandchildren, Jacob N. "Jake" Baskin of Austin; LT R. Quinn Baskin, USN of Corpus Christi, TX; Benajah B. "Ben" Baskin and wife, Brandie, of Waxahachie, TX; Capt. Wm. Rush Baskin, USMC, and wife, Kalyn of San Antonio, TX; 2nd Lt. Roy H. Baskin IV, USMC of Dallas, TX; Elizabeth S. "Bess" Baskin of Austin, TX and William S. "Will" Baskin and John E. "Jack" Baskin of Waco; and Bernice L. Baskin of Pasadena, CA; and great-granddaughters, Brooklyn S. Baskin, Bostyn H. Baskin and Brenham N. Baskin of Waxahachie, Adalyn J. Baskin and Reagan J. Baskin of San Antonio. Pallbearers will be Jake, Quinn, Ben, Rush, Roy, Will and Jack Baskin. Memorials may be made to the Austin Avenue United Methodist Church or the charity of choice. The family would like to give a special thanks to Uni Murphy of Lake Ridge Healthy Living for the care, attention and dedication given to our mother.
