Melvin Lucille Martin was born on January 8, 1926 in Crozet, Virginia, daughter of Mary Grace Timberlake Wood and Melvin Lewis Wood. Lucille, as she was known by most, received her Nurses Aide Certification from Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Staunton, Virginia. She then worked some years as a Nurses Aide Contractor. She was employed by Woodbridge State School in New Jersey. She retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in housekeeping. She was bestowed a Church Mother at Shelter Temple Apostolic Church in Elizabeth, a Founding Mother of Morning Star Community Christian Center in Linden and a former member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle. Lucille was strong willed and loved life, but most importantly, she loved the Life-Giver. She enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved unconditionally and serving her church members and community. She was affectionately the "Nana" to countless individuals. Melvin Lucille Martin departed this life on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway in Rahway, New Jersey at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her husband, Len Martin; her parents, Mary Grace and Melvin Lewis and two sisters, Katherine Wood and Mary Virginia "Frances" Barbour. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her children, Len Martin (Peggy) of Roselle, NJ, Arregis "Regis" Martin of Linden, NJ, Earnest Martin of Roselle, NJ, Christine Nelson of Florence, NJ, Deborah Martin of Florence, NJ, Rosalyn Martin of Charlottesville, VA and Robyn Armstrong (Kevin, Sr.) of Iselin, NJ; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Nodie Miller of Charlottesville, VA; 5 nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Those we love are never really lost to us. We feel them in so many special ways- Through friends they always cared about and dreams they left behind. In beauty that they added to our days… In words of wisdom we still carry with us and memories that never will be gone… Those we love are never really lost to us- For everywhere their special love lives on.
