Mrs. Lucille McAlpin nee Johnson was born in Columbia County, Georgia to Robert and Amanda Johnson on November 25, 1921. She received her education in a one-room school-house. Lucille joined the Baptist church as a youth. She learned valuable skills and lessons from working and living on a farm along with her family. Lucille gave birth to her son Robert Tabb. She married George W. McAlpin, Jr. and they joined the great migration north and moved to New Jersey. Their union produced five children, Mildred, David, Marie, Theresa and Vanessa. Mrs. McAlpin settled in Linden, New Jersey where she has lived for 56 years on Union Street. Lucille provided daycare at home for years. She was employed as a Cottage Training Technician (CTT) at Woodbridge Developmental Center for 10 years until her retirement. She was fond of traveling the countryside, gardening, visiting family and doting on her grandchildren. Lucille was an excellent cook. She made the best pear preserves and sweet potato pies! She enjoyed listening to gospel music. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law Robert E. and Barbara J. Tabb of Hephzibah, GA. Her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Marie A. McAlpin who was her faithful and dedicated caretaker of Linden, NJ, Theresa L. and W. Louis Waters of East Orange, NJ and Vanessa L. and Todd V. Traynham of Mitchellville, MD. She also leaves her step-daughter Vivian McBride of Augusta, GA. Lucille McAlpin was predeceased by her beloved husband George W. McAlpin, Jr. in 1973, her loving son David S. McAlpin in 1990 and her dear daughter Mildred J. McAlpin in 2007. She leaves to cherish her memory her adoring grandchildren, Richard (Denean) McAlpin of Hephzibah, GA, Yolonda Tabb of Atlanta, GA, Tonya (Derek) Bellamy of Austin, TX, April (Kraig) Bess of University Park, IL, Todd Traynham II of Mitchellville, MD, Montsho Waters of Belleville, NJ, Jumaan Waters of Newark, NJ, and Earlston Anderson Jr. of Brooklyn, NY. She also leaves many precious great grandchildren. Lucille is also survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law, George and Helen Johnson of Evans, GA and her sister Clara Turner of Augusta, GA and her sister-in-law Tessie Mae Ed-wards of Augusta, GA. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Lucille McAlpin.
