Mrs. Lucille B. (Baker) Newcomer Smith, 94, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of 308 W. Third Street, Waynesboro, PA entered into eternal rest at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the nursing home. She was born on July 18, 1917 in Waynesboro; she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Annie E. (Bryan) Baker. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area. She entered the nursing home on March 23, 2009. Mrs. Smith attended the Waynesboro schools. She was married to her first husband, Mr. Ralph G. Newcomer on October 16, 1943 in Thurmont, MD. Mr. Newcomer died in 1944 during World War II. She then married Mr. Charles C. Smith on December 15, 1962 in Thurmont, MD. Mr. Smith died in December 1970. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. She is survived by four children, Annie E. "Betsy" Newlin of Hagerstown, MD; Harriett M. Wilhide and Lois J. Woodring both of Waynesboro; Glen David Newcomer and wife Kathy of Elizabethtown, PA, 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, James R. "Jim" Newcomer who died in 2009, two grandchildren, Stephen S. Wilhide and Jeannie Palmer, six brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2011 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Pastor W. Brian Black officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Mont Alto. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
