Lue Bertha Mickens was born on September 24, 1924 in Bishopville, SC to the late Moses and Mary Mickens. Lue Bertha Hickman departed from this life on January 10, 2012 at 11:05 am. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Hickman, two sisters, Carol Lee Mickens, Gertrude Mickens and one brother, Robert Mickens. The third of five children, Bertha grew up in a loving family. Bertha attended elementary and middle school at Dennis Elementary and High School located in Bishopville, South Carolina. In 1950 Lue Bertha met and married Luther Hickmen while still living in Bishopville. In 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Hickman began to create their family adopting Herbert at age 3 and relocated to Paterson, NJ. Throughout her stay in Paterson, Lue Bertha became a member of Second Baptist Church where she served as a member for many years. For 30 years Lue Bertha maintained employment with General Mirror where she worked as a manufacturer of glass mirrors. She leaves a son Musa Muhammad of Atlanta, GA, daughter-in-law, Waheedah Muhammad of Paterson, NJ, one sister, Anne Hampton of Philadelphia, PA, and one brother, Moses Mickens of Philadelphia, PA, 6 grandchildren, Raijon, Ibn, Sultan, Baiyina, Dawud and Al Nisa Muhammad and 20 great-grandchildren, she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.
