Lyle Duane Verbeek, 81, a resident of Glenn Dale MD for the past 45 years, died November 21st at the Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Lyle was born December 13th 1929 in Scribner Nebraska and graduated from Fremont High School. He served in the Army from 1948 to 1953 and the reserves for an additional five years rising to the ranks of Warrant Officer. After service, Lyle began his career with the federal government, working in what was the fledgling computer field. He climbed to the senior ranks of the National Security Agency, retiring as a member of the Senior Cryptologic Executive Service obtaining an Exceptional Civilian Service Award.
His joys included spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand-child. He had fun working on his computers. Lyle was always quick to "lend a hand" to neighbors and friends. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, generous nature, and a "can do" problem solving ability that really defines his generation.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Louise Verbeek, whom he married May 3rd 1952; four children; Dennis Michael Verbeek (Jo Ann) of San Antonio TX, Kevin James Verbeek (Wendy) of Cape St Claire, Stephen Patrick Verbeek (the other Wendy) of Crownsville, Kerry Ann Monroe (Dave) of Davidsonville; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Tyree (Raj), Ashley and Cody Verbeek, Melissa, Victoria, Alexandra Verbeek, Ian and Connor Monroe; and one great grand-child, Lilly Tyree; six brothers, a sister, numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday December 6th at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis. A private family funeral will be on Dec 7th at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lyle's name may be made to American Legion Post #7, 1905 Crownsville Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.
