Lyle grew up on the Witt Farm southeast of Lodgepole, SD, with his five brothers and one sister, Jim Witt, Joyce (Witt) Bauman, Dan Witt, Tom Witt, Mike Witt and Jerry Witt. Lyle attended grade school at the Carr School and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1969.

Following his graduation, Lyle attended college in Denver, CO, for a short period of time, then moving to Mississippi to do custom harvesting. While in Mississippi, he met and married Ann (McCool-Witt) Munro. Lyle and Ann were blessed with five children, Robert Aaron Witt (deceased), Johnny Duane Witt, Jason Lyle Witt, Jody Ann Witt and Jeffrey Robert Witt.

Lyle worked at farming and ranching in the later 1970's, moving his family to Lemmon, SD, in 1976, purchasing the Harold Crow Family home and working for the City of Lemmon. In 1981 Lyle joined the oil field business moving to Watford City, ND. From there, Lyle managed an oil business in the states of Colorado, Utah and Texas. In 1991 Lyle and his family moved to Hettinger, ND, after retiring from the oil business.

Lyle was employed and lived in Hettinger until owning and operating his trucking business in 2005, which took him cross country. Wanting to be closer to his children and grandchildren, Lyle sold his truck in 2011 and was employed with CC Flooring and Backyard Mechanics until his passing on May 1, 2013.
Lyle passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

He is survived by his mother, Leola Witt, Hettinger, ND; three sons, Johnny Witt, Jason Witt and Jeff (Valerie) Witt, all of Hettinger, ND; one daughter, Jody Witt, Williston, ND; 16 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three brothers, Dan Witt, Sioux Falls, SD, Tom (Brenda) Witt, Marion, SD and Jerry (Kristie) Witt, Lemmon, SD; one sister, Joyce (Duane) Bauman, Rock Springs, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
