Lawler, Lyle 88 9/22/1921 7/9/2010 Lyle Lawler was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1921, and passed away July 9, 2010, in Portland. Lyle graduated from Battleground (Wash.) High School in 1940. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, December 2003; and daughters, Kathy Davis in November 1995 and Judith Halstead in July 2006. Lyle is survived by his children, Carol Sleightam, Susan Schussel, Marlene Westerfield, Kenneth Lawler, Randy Lawler, and Ronald Lawler; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Lyle was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines and was a retired Teamsters driver. For over 30 years many Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade goers knew him as the "Mayor of Union Avenue." He volunteered for the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. He would also stop and help anyone in need. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, in the Community of Christ church, 4837 N.E. Couch St., Portland. Remembrances may be sent to the Lents Loaves & Fishes.
