Ray, Lyman F.T., 91, passed away December 21, 2011. He was born August 11, 1920 in Newton, KS to Lyman and Helena (Tolsdorf) Ray. Lyman was raised and graduated from high school in Halstead, KS. He served his country in WWII in the Pacific and Korea as a Navigator/Pilot flying B 29's. During his military career, he graduated in 1955 from the University of Alabama with a Military Degree and flew air rescue missions for a few years in Alaska. Lyman retired from McConnell AFB in November of 1963 as a Major. After retiring, he went into construction work, building mostly light commercial buildings. He built and managed the Village Center Shopping Center at 300 S. Greenwich Rd., Wichita, KS for many years prior to selling the property in 2001. Lyman also built a retirement home for he and his wife, Dorothy, on Kaw Lake, Kaw City, OK. They enjoyed the home for many years before selling it when they moved to Wichita, KS in 2007. Lyman had lifetime memberships in the V.F.W. and D.A.V. and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mulvane, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Linford Ray, Benjamin Ray, and Mildred Morgan. Lyman is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy; children, Janet Hilton, Cheryl (Don) Sayler, Sandra "Jo" (Hank) Vanderbeek, Douglass (Judy) Stull, Brent Stull, Shane Stull, and Ken (Nancy) Ray; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph (Connie) Ray; and a large extended family. Visitation: 4 - 7 pm, Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Funeral: 2 pm, Thursday, December 29, 2011, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or VFW Post 112.
