Lyuben Berov, a former prime minister who led Bulgaria's Cabinet between 1992 and 1994, died Thursday, the government said. He was 81.

The cause of his death was not immediately announced.

Berov was a university professor and researcher in economics, and was not affiliated with any political party.

In 1992, Berov was elected prime minister, but he resigned two years later.
