Dr. M. Glenn Lucas of Hillsboro, Ohio died in the early morning of August 29, 2009 after a short but ultimately futile battle with cancer, four days after his 56th birthday. He is survived by his wife M. Lynne Lucas, children Laura C. Turner (husband Eddie), M. Gregory Lucas, and Lee D. Koogler (wife Katharine), grandchildren Evan Turner, Nicholas Turner, Abigail Koogler, Hannah Koogler and Michael Koogler, all of Hillsboro, Ohio ad numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. M. Gerald Lucas and Joan West Lucas. Dr. Lucas graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1970 and the Ohio State University in 1972, and the Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1976 Dr. Lucas began practicing dentistry in 1976 and continued serving the greater Highland County, Ohio area until his illness was discovered in early July, 2009. Dr. Lucas had a passion for dentistry and was a diligent practitioner, always remaining on the cutting edge of his profession. His commitment to excellence in his profession was one of the many defining points of his life. Dr. Lucas served his country for twenty years, retiring from the United States Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel in 2003. Lt. Colonel Lucas most rewarding time he spent in the military were the numerous voluntary humanitarian missions on which he served throughout the world. He served his community for over 30 years as a member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, serving as the clubs song leader. He will always be remembered by his fellow Rotarians for his rendition of Little Liza Jane. Glenn also served two terms on the Hillsboro School Board in the 1980s. Dr. Lucas grew up in the First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro, Ohio and attended and served the church throughout his life. Although Glenn served his church by holding many positions of influence, no other service for his church gave him any greater pleasure than singing the Lords praises in the church choir. His tenor voice was unmistakable and with his earthly voice now silenced, those of us that heard him sing know that he must now be singing in the heavenly choir. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Glenn, his wife Lynne and friends David and Marilyn Myers traveled the Midwest and spread the word of God through song as members of the gospel quartet Horizon. As age, family and personal commitments became more pressing, the group began performing less and less frequently until at last, their song was only shared on Sunday morning as members of the church choir at the First United Methodist Church. During the last decade of his life, Dr. Lucas' main passion outside of his profession, family and church was auto racing. What started out as a part time hobby turned into a regular weekend pursuit. As a member of the Mid Ohio BMW Racing club, Glenn fulfilled a life long dream of pushing his automobies to the limit and was always happy to discuss this passion with anyone who was willing to listen. The engines of his cars are now silent, but if there is racing in heaven, Glenn is truly home. For those of us who knew and loved him, Dr. Lucas will be remembered as a man who went after his dreams and lived a life fulfilled. Glenn never did anything slow and his untimely death was no different. His death is our loss and the Lords gain. A public viewing of Dr. Lucas is scheduled at the First United Methodist Church. Hillsboro, Ohio from 3:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 in Robison Hall, with a service in celebration of his life in the main sanctuary of the church at 7:30 p.m. A private burial of Dr. Lucas will be conducted at the convenience of the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations in memory of Glenn be sent to his favorite charities, the Highland County Children & Adults, 149 E. Main St., Hillsboro, Ohio 45133
