Manuel Cruz Mangubat, Sr., 82, passed away at home August 19, 2011. He was a native of Orion, Bataan, Philippines, and the son of the late Delfin and Consolacion Mangubat. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Maria Nieves P. Mangubat. The love and devotion they shared together was truly a strong bond of union. Manuel was a devout Catholic, and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for 44 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer, thereafter, worked in civil service for 20 years. He was a devoted, fun-loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who made great sacrifices to care for and support his family. He always had a bright and cheerful smile for everyone. Left to cherish his memory are his six children, who will miss him dearly, three sons, Manuel P. Mangubat, Jr., and his wife Susan, Alonzo P. Mangubat and his wife Beverly, Nestor P. Mangubat and his wife Amy; three daughters, Julieta Buni and her husband Antonio, Consolacion Melton and her husband Marshall, Generosa Wilkinson and her husband Chad. He is also survived by nine granddaughters, Tracy Gutierrez and her husband Anthony, Sr., Toni Jean Buni Inman, Tara Melton, Rachel Corbett and her husband Danny, Amanda Mangubat, Kelly Mangubat, Heather Mangubat, Loren Mangubat, Madeline Joseph; two grandsons; Jonathan Melton and his wife Amanda, Zachary Cruz Mangubat; and eight great-grandsons; numerous family members in the Philippines; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren Jennifer and Justin Melton. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, 2011. He will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 34 Afton Pkwy., Portsmouth, VA where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, by Father Jaroslaw Nowacki. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Shortly thereafter, a reception will be held at the church.
