Manuel J. “Manny” Duarte, 61, died February 14, 2011, with his family by his side in Portland, OR at Providence Hospital. Manny was born July 7, 1949, in Gilroy, California to Manuel and Georgia Duarte. Manny graduated from Gilroy High School in 1967 and attended college at Gavilan College shortly after in Gilroy, California where he played college baseball on a scholarship. Manny moved from California to Oregon in 1973 after following his oldest sister Norma to the city of Portland where he started working at White Rock Bottling Company. Manny later moved on to Pepsi Cola Bottling Company where he served 33 years of employment and worked his way up to Inventory Manager. Manny retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling due illness in 2005. Manny Played for numerous softball leagues throughout his years where he continued his love for the game of baseball. He was a proud member of the teamsters 162 and was heavily involved in N.A and A.A programs for over 25 years. Manny was a sports fanatic and shared his passion for sports by collecting sports cards as well as sports memorabilia. Manny was a care free loving person and a friend to all he encountered. Manny is survived by his two sons Jesse Duarte (Portland, Or) and Justin Duarte, (Maui, Hi) and one daughter, Crystal Waters (Spokane, Wa). As well as four grandchildren, Jeremiah Duarte (Maui, Hi), Jaydalyn Duarte (Portland, Or), Aryeanna Duarte (Portland, Or). He is also survived by his three sisters, Norma Gilgan (Vancouver, WA), Georgia Ratterree (Las Vegas, NV), and Toni Duarte (Gresham, OR), and his nephews and nieces, Ken Portlock (Pasco, WA), Tom Portlock, (Portland, OR), Laura Portlock (Portland, OR) Mike Vaughn, (Los Angeles, CA), and Kim Borgens (Los Angeles, CA). Viewing service will be held at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home, Mausoleum & Crematory, on Sunday February 20, 2011 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
