Margaret Marie Harelik August 19, 1917 - December 18, 2011 A beautiful smile left us as native Wacoan, Margaret Rosen Harelik, 94, passed away at her home Sunday, December 18, 2011, after a long illness. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, at Agudath Jacob with the Rabbi Gordon Fuller officiating. A memorial service will follow at 2:15 p.m., at Congregation Agudath Jacob, 4925 Hillcrest Drive, Waco. Friends and family may attend either or both services. Margaret was born to Russian/Hungarian Jewish immigrant parents, August 19, 1917, the second child of Bertha and Louis Rosen. She had two sisters and three brothers, and with the exception of a few years, she lived her entire life in Waco. Margaret was well-known in Waco as long-time co-owner with her husband, Sam, of a much loved high-end men's clothing store, Harlik's Man's Shop, which operated for over 30 years in downtown Waco and later at the Lake Air Mall. She married Sam on May 20, 1947, and the highlights of her life were her twin sons, Harry and Larry (Leibel), and, later, her five wonderful grandchildren. Granny, as she was called, loved having her grandchildren sleep over and loved cooking their favorite foods. She and Grampa took great pride in waxing eloquent about the accomplishments of their granddaughter and four grandsons. Margaret took great pride in everything she did, whether it was singing and dancing on stage for the Lions Club in their fundraisers during the 1950s, or being a room mother for her sons' elementary school classes. She was a longtime member of Congregation Agudath Jacob Synagogue in Waco. Sam passed away February 25, 2006. Margaret was also predeceased by her first husband, Mark Harris during WWII; her parents; two sisters; and one brother. She is survived by her two sons; Leibel's wife, Debb, and their children, Adam, Noah, Dakota and Sarah; Harry's significant other, Beverly, and his children, Alyssa, Jarrod, Joshua; and Alyssa's husband, Eric, and their daughter, Sophia, Margaret's precious great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Harelik; brothers, Arthur and Joe Rosen; and many other family members. The family wishes to express sincere love and appreciation to mom's caregivers, Marene, Earnestine, Mary, Joy, Donna, Bertie and Marcella for their many years of professional and personal care for our family matriarch. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Congregation Agudath Jacob, 4925 Hillcrest Drive, Waco, TX 76710; the Sam and Margaret Harelik Endowed Scholarship at the McLennan Community College Foundation, 1400 College Dr. Waco, TX 76708; Prostate Cancer Survivor's Inc., 2302 Euclid Ave. Austin, TX 78704; or the charity of one's choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WilkirsonHatchBailey.com.
