Mrs. Margaret T. (Barbato) Wentzell, a longtime resident of Saugus, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 15, 2011 at Saugus Care and Rehabilitation, at the age of 86.
Margaret Barbato was born in Lynn on January 1st 1925, one of two daughters of the late Julian and Theresa (Marolda) Barbato.
She worked for Shawmut Bank in Wakefield from 1955 until 1988 when she retired as the operations manager. Margaret, known affectionately as "Peggy" was actively involved with the Saugus Senior Center where she was the Treasurer of the Friends of the Center. She had lived in Melrose from 1952 to 1965 until moving to Saugus where she enjoyed living with her husband George and their dog, Mavie
She was the beloved wife of George E. Wentzell with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Devoted Mom of Lydia Winter of North Bennington, VT, George Winter and his wife Patty of Chester, CT, Elizabeth Elwell of Shaftsbury, VT, and the late Neal Winter. Dear sister of the late Juliette Barbato. Cherished Grammy of Kate and Jason Shamberger of Groton, MA, Matthew and Erina Rhodes of Seattle, WA, Jennifer Elwell of Smyrna, GA, and Margaret "Maggie" Winter of Chester, CT. Loving Great Grammy of Madeline Clara "Maddie" Shamberger. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Margaret's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, November 18 from 4-8 PM and again on Saturday morning at 8 AM before leaving in procession to Blessed Sacrament Church, Summer St., Saugus where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Gifts in Peggy's memory may be made to the Friends of the Saugus Senior Center, 466 Central St., Saugus, MA 01906.
