Brattleboro- Maria E. Olivencia-John, 42, of Lawton Drive died Saturday evening, June 4, 2011 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with her family by her side following a lengthy illness. Maria was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on October 21, 1968, the daughter of Wencesalo Olivencia and Nancy (Gee) Ashline. She was a graduate of Hartford High School, Class of 1986 and later attended college in Bennington, Vermont. For the past fifteen years she had been employed in management at C&S Grocers Wholesale in Keene in a position she loved and excelled in. She retired from C&S in April due to her failing health. Previously she was a manager at the Brattleboro Bowl on Putney Road. Maria was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother whose life centered around her family. Of her pastimes and interests, she enjoyed baking and playing softball, active with the greater Brattleboro Women's League. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and New England Patriots fan. On November 1, 1997 in Keene she was married to Eric John, who survives. Besides her loving husband of 13 years she leaves one son, Samuel John, at home, her mother of White River Junction, Vermont, her father of Puerto Rico, two brothers, Francisco Olivencia and Edward Ashline both of White River Jct., and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Edward Ashline who died this year. A Celebration of her Life is being planned, to be held at a future date. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maria's name may be made to The Oncology Department at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, 17 Belmont Avenue, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
