Marian Ruth Higgins, 88, of Monaca, Pennsylvania, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, January 2, 2009 at her residence. She was born April 29, 1920, in Nelsonville to the late William and Mary Sophia Arft Klinebriel. Ruth was the widow of the late Thomas W. Higgins.
She graduated from Nelsonville High School in 1937, was a member of the Nelsonville First United Methodist Church and the Queen Esther Class.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Elaine Alushin of Monaca, Pennsylvania, Susan (Sherman) Hopkins of Athens and Marilyn (Rex) Fisk of Buchtel; grandchildren, Connie (Andy) Powell, Bill (Johnna) Higgins, Jack Watkins, Jerry (Cathy) Watkins, Sarah Mowad, Shawn (Kim) Wildman, Ryan Wildman, Heather Campbell, Uriah (Teige) Fisk, Tom, Joe and Amanda Higgins; great grandchildren, Emma and Owen Campbell, Taylor and Charlie Jo Fisk, Benjamin and Chase Higgins, Anthony and Melinda Mowad, Mike and Dustin Polt, Rebekah, Jason, Haley and Desi Watkins, Lauren and Olivia Wildman and a sister, Margaret Pyle of Miamisburg, Ohio.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Alan and Frank Higgins, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Tuesday, January 6, 2008 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Bob Gall officiating. Interment will be in Connett Cemetery, Athens County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and on Tuesday, from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
The family suggests contributions be made to Mother Teresa Hospice , 3950 Broadhead Rd., Monaca, Pennsylvania 15061.
