Marie A. Ebbecke, 91, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on December 29, 2005 at Jennersville Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late Hubert J. Ebbecke, who passed away in 1980 and with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.

Born May 2, 1914 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Rosaria Marabello Basciani.

Marie was a 1934 graduate of West Chester State University, summa cum laude. During the war, she was a shipfitter for Dravo Shipyards in Wilmington, DE. Following the war, she became an estimator for Edgemoor Iron Works in Delaware until joining her husband in the mushroom business. For 45 years Marie and Hubert owned and operated The Ebbeckes Mushrooms in Toughkenamon, PA.

Marie was very active at the Kennett Senior Center (now the Kennett Life Center) from its inception, and she was especially active with their crafts groups, cooking, and bingo. Everyone at the center looked forward to her homemade desserts on Wednesdays.

She is survived by:

Jacob and Olivia Brooks

Great Great Grandchildren: Haley and Brooke Killian

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her only brother, Louis Basciani, and by a great grandson, Kevin Flad.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at St. Patrick Church, 212 Meredith St., Kennett Square, PA 19348. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 and also on Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:15 AM at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 W. State St., Kennett Square. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Maries memory to the church or to the Kennett Life Center, 427 S. Walnut St., Kennett Square, PA 19348.
