Ms. Marie Jean Bibilos, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center – The Elmhurst on Friday morning, January 13, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 83.
Marie was born on September 11, 1928, in Boston, one of two children of the late George J. Bibilos and Sophia (Makrokanis) Bibilos.
Raised and educated in Boston, Marie was a graduate of Boston Latin High School. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Boston University. Marie worked in the public school systems of Boston, Medford, and Burlington for 38 years as a remedial reading specialist.
Marie's passion was music. She loved dancing, going to concerts and the theatre. She also enjoyed taking classes in Tai Chai, and singing in the Melrose Senior Choir. Marie was a longtime member of both the St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church of Arlington and the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Woburn. She was also a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Annunciation Church.
She was the cherished daughter of the late George J. Bibilos and Sophia (Makrokanis) Bibilos. Devoted sister-in-law of Kaye (Chaconas) Bibilos of Melrose and her husband the late John G. Bibilos. Cherished aunt of George J. Bibilos and his wife Doreen of Melrose, Michael J. Bibilos of Melrose, and Suzanne E. Jervinis and her husband Peter of Burlington. Loving great aunt of Elena N. Bibilos, Christina M. Bibilos, John G. Bibilos, James R. Bibilos, all of Melrose and Constantine Jervinis of Burlington.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Marie's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, January 17 from 4-8 PM and again on Wednesday morning at 10 AM before leaving in procession to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in Marie's honor may be made to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, Building Fund, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA 01801.
