Wells, Vermont- Marie P. Putnam, 64 of East Wells Road, a former resident of 66 Central Street in Brattleboro, died Monday morning, October 17, 2011 at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. Marie was born in Newport, Vermont on August 21, 1947, the daughter of Hector and Germaine (Lussier) Roy. She was raised and educated in Newport attending Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. While a resident of Brattleboro she had been employed at Eden Park Nursing Home for many years working numerous positions at the facility including front desk receptionist. She retired early due to a disability. She had made her home in Wells for the past seven years. Marie was a member of Bingham Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star in Brattleboro and was an active participant with the Wells Volunteer Fire Department where she had served as president. Of her leisure time activities, Marie liked to garden, loved her home and enjoyed travel. She was known for her spirit of kindness and generosity and enjoyed being around people, especially children. She was an excellent baker and during every holiday season enjoyed sharing her baked delicacies with family and friends. On August 1, 1987, in Brattleboro she was married to Prentice L. "Cappy" Putnam who predeceased her on December 17, 1993. Survivors include her loving fiancé' Ted Mendrina of Wells, one brother, Marc Roy and his wife Margaret of South Burlington, two stepsons and three step-daughters from her previous marriage, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery on Orchard Street. There are no calling hours at the funeral home.
