Obituary "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:1-3 Marie Hankins Sparks departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born August 25, 1923. a daughter of the late John Henderson and Dorothy Hankins. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Arthur and Nettie Hankins. She attended Butler School. Ms. Sparks later married the love of her life, Harry Sparks, Sr. and to this union one son, Harry Sparks, Jr., was born. Ms. Sparks worked most of her life in a domestic field. She worked for several families in Hartsville, South Carolina. She cleaned, cooked, and assisted in raising children, which was something she loved to do. Ms. Sparks loved and believed in helping those that were less fortunate. She was a lifelong member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. She would sing on the Gospel Chorus and was a member of the Loyal Worker's Club. She loved lifting up the name of Jesus. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son, her grandson, Stevie D. Sparks; a sister, Lossie Scott Council, whom she loved dearly; and a brother, Hosie Scott. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Marie Hankins Sparks is her adopted son, Lindell (Diane) Hankins of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, Zelta Renay (Harold) Coe of Charlotte, NC, Anthony K Sparks, Terry J. Sparks of Hartsville, SC, Robert Hankins, and Tamara Hankins of Newport News, VA; five sisters, Ruby Scott of Hartsville, SC, Gertre (Hurbert) Rogers, Agnes Scott, Lillie Bell Scott, and Ella George all of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Jack Scott of Baltimore, MD, and Willie Scott of Hartsville, SC; nine great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, her Jerusalem Baptist Church family, and very dear friends.
